Surprise Interview

Surprise interview â€" are you ready? This is not your ordinary career site. I help the corporate worker who toils away in the company cubicle make career transitions. You want to do your job well, following all the rules -- . The career transitions where I can help you center on three critical career areas: How to land a job, succeed in a job, and build employment security. Top 10 Posts on Categories Surprise interviews are unusual â€" but not unheard of when you have built a great personal brand for getting things done in a company where managers are hand picking the talent they want on their team. A person I know was approached by a manager from a different department with a simple request: could she interview for an open position tomorrow morning? The manager thought she would be a good fit for the job, knew of her current work in the company and wanted to explore the possibilities. What person wouldn’t say…yes? Saying yes or no is easy â€" but would you be ready for the interview? This person demonstrated “interview readiness.” Here’s what she did: We get a job…and we let the resume get stale. No current accomplishments from the current job to show; it is if you joined the company and then nothing happened the entire time you were there. Here’s the test: hand me your resume right now. Does it have the great accomplishments you’ve done on your current job? And if you have been in the job a while, does it have the great accomplishments you’ve done over the last six months? My fearless forecast is no. But she did. A lot of us go to work and sit in our little groups, visit with our coworkers and go to meetings and never make the cross-departmental relationships that help build our business network. And if you don’t like the “business network” term, just think of it as you never get around to talking in normal conversations about what you are doing and accomplishing in your work with people in other departments. Nor are you offering any help to someone in a different department. You become just another person in another bland cubicle staring at their computer screen â€" and missing out on the jobs. She knew the organization, what the goals were, the people in the organization â€" and therefore knew how her talents and job skills could fit in that department to help them meet their goals. Corporate culture â€" the rules of the road to get things done in an “acceptable” way in your job â€" is both company-wide and department specific. In any company over, say, a thousand employees, there is enough differentiation in departments to be able to say that THIS department gets it and THAT department is in trouble and that OTHER department is completely clueless. Look around your company, say a department name, then ask yourself what the people in the department stand for and get done. That’s a culture clue. How you fit into a department, or a work group, is largely determined from matching the way you like to work with the culture of the specific department you are in â€" or want to be in. But if you don’t know what you want out of a job and you have never paid any attention to how other departments work, you’ll never figure out if you would match up with the culture â€" much less showing it in an interview â€" as to how your work fits with how the department works. Okay…you are reading this right now. Right now, I come up to you and say something like, “Hey, we have a job opening in my department that I think you might be good at. I’ve already cleared it with your manager to speak with you…could you send me your resume and interview with me at two o’clock this afternoon?” Would you be ready? If not, what do you need to plan to get done mighty quick to be ready? Photo by andrewrennie This is not your ordinary career site. Three Types of Stresses While in Transition - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Three Types of Stresses While in Transition - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Doctors and specialists have demonstrated that there is a positive connection among's pressure and ailment. Individuals on the move experience different and variable degrees of stress. Furthermore, such pressure isn't an independent issue yet is intensified by different stressors. One examination distinguished three sorts of life stresses: concoction, physical, and attitudinal. All together there are 43 wellsprings of stress that can cause around 80 side effects. Obviously individuals have in their carries on with numerous sources that cause appearances of compound indications. As to compound effect on the body, the examination discovered espresso drinking, unreasonable utilization of sugar and salt, ordinary utilization of different physician recommended drugs, nicotine mixed refreshments, air contamination, and even nature of water to be wrongdoers. Physical stressors may be overweight, absence of activity, exorbitant driving, and inactive way of life. For this blog, I need to concentrate on the attitudinal and, all the more explicitly, the enthusiastic stressors and related manifestations. Instances of stressors related with being on the move are issues with rest, failure to unwind, uplifted degrees of dissatisfaction, potential for influencing relationship with life partner, antagonistic impact on temperament, and sentiments of miserable and sorrow. Also, the vast majority have a mix of such stressors. As far as indications, individuals on the move may feel discouraged or surly, blow up effectively, pick up or lose huge measures of weight, experience episodes of a sleeping disorder, feel defeat with exhaustion, lose capacity to focus, and experience tension, stress, bashfulness, and segregation. So the inquiry is, how to manage those? Plainly, disregarding the manifestations isn't the appropriate response. Trusting they'll disappear is just unrealistic reasoning. Ladies, for instance, similar to spas, back rubs, and yoga more than men do. Theater, a film, or supper with companions or family may interest others. How Far Back Should a Resume Go Tips from 5x Certified Resume Writer

How Far Back Should a Resume Go Tips from 5x Certified Resume Writer How Far Back Should a Resume Go Tips from 5x Certified Resume Writer With regards to composing a resume, many battle with choosing how far back to go, what to incorporate, and what not to incorporate as a feature of your profession history. I am a promoter of giving most of the land on your resume to what exactly occurred in the previous 15 years. In this article, I'll present the body of evidence for and against this position, examine some workarounds that may work for everybody, and toss in my feedback on what to remember for LinkedIn. Why you may just return 15 years on a resume As far as I can tell, when perusers (selection representatives or recruiting supervisors) begin finding out about jobs that happened over 15 years back, and they see the dates related with them, their minds accidentally go down a bunny gap. The bunny gap is loaded up with questions like I wonder how old this individual is? or I wonder how old their children are? In my view, the hare opening is all the more a human instinct characteristic than a deliberate age segregation issue. Moreover, in any case, age segregation exists. Constraining your resume to your most recent 15 years can help relieve this boundary to employing, show that your most significant experience is later and that you've stayed aware of current work environment patterns. In the event that your experience is more established than 15 years however isn't crucial or pertinent to the job you're focusing on, think about cutting it. (Regardless of whether you need to work for an organization that doesn't esteem your long periods of experience is a theme for another discussion.) As an official resume author I endeavor to make a record that is immortal so the peruser doesn't know from the outset if my customer is 35 or 75. The most effective method to show over 15 years experience on a resume For some the possibility of excluding prior understanding, especially when they see it as basic to who they are today, is an intense pill to swallow. Moreover, there are times when prior jobs loan extra validity to an applicant's abilities or exhibit some extra aptitude decent variety that in any case wouldn't have been known. The workaround I am a colossal defender of including a Prior Experience classification when the experience from preceding 15 years upgrades the account or story I have made. Here are 3 instances of this: 1) My customer is a military vet and the military experience will reverberate with the peruser. 2) The activity titles related with my customer's prior experience show that they took in an industry from the beginning, demonstrating to the peruser that they comprehend its peculiarities or subtleties. 3) When my customer is attempting to show their abilities are transferable across ventures, there is an incentive in name dropping, the same number of times organization names are sufficient to demonstrate a specific industry. How a prior encounter area functions The procedure I follow while making a previous encounter area that incorporates jobs from 15+ years earlier is as per the following: Prior Experience Example #1 Identify: Determine which jobs, assuming any, progress or fortify the story I am attempting to tell. #2 Synopsize: Sometimes I do exclude anything over the name and employment title, however on the off chance that there's a vital accomplishment, one line is all that anyone could need to clarify the point that makes this job worth including. #3 Remove Dates: In my experience, expelling the dates enables the peruser to sidestep the beforehand talked about hare opening. A proviso: When a point from this Prior Experience class is especially vital, I'll try to reference it in the rundown segment at the highest point of page one, a procedure that educates the peruser while likewise offering a bother to incent them to proceed to the base of page two. Tending to ATS concerns While still accessible by numerous candidate following frameworks (ATS), prior experience without dates probably won't get precisely parsed into an advanced candidate profile. At the point when I need ATS to precisely parse what I've remembered for this area, I will in certainty incorporate the dates however change the content shading to white â€" making them stripped to the natural eye on first look and possibly exposed when parsed into an ATS. Anyway when managing ATS as the primary pursuit of employment purpose of-section (as opposed to sending your resume to a scout or leader by means of email), my proposal is to expel the dates through and through permitting the initial 15 years of experience do the hard work. Is your resume ATS benevolent? Check it with Jobscan How far back to go on LinkedIn Individuals read LinkedIn uniquely in contrast to they do resumes. At the point when a peruser has been snared by a feature and a synopsis segment, they at that point need to go the additional mile and continue clicking to peruse prior understanding. Remembering this, when experience more established than 15 years is critical to propelling the customer's story, I will incorporate it alongside the dates. In the event that the experience doesn't include any gigantic worth include, I'll dispense with it and decide in favor of attempting to keep somebody ageless and stay away from the potential for age inclination however much as could reasonably be expected. An exercise in careful control Deciding how far back to go on a resume and LinkedIn requires a fragile exercise in careful control â€" with human instinct and age inclination on the one side, and stories and profession focuses that advance the brand or account you are hoping to advance on the other. The workarounds I've shared should assist with accomplishing a portion of that balance! Virginia Franco is a 5X Certified Executive Resume + LinkedIn Writer, Coach and Storyteller whose records are composed for the present online skim perusers and get interviews. She helps customers everywhere throughout the world to recount to their accounts and test the pursuit of employment waters â€" frequently without precedent for years or in the wake of choosing to make a lifelong change.

Help Yourself With Volunteer Experience and Your Resume

Help Yourself With Volunteer Experience and Your ResumeResume Volunteer experience is an important way to prove that you can do a great job. But it is not the only way, or even the best way to prove yourself as a volunteer. Here are five tips to help you demonstrate your readiness for volunteering.Volunteers work in all sorts of ways and settings. Some work as paid staff, some work with a private foundation, some work for non-profit groups. In any case, they perform a wide variety of tasks in the service of others. What they are not, however, is disposable people who can be taken advantage of.The rewards of volunteer work are enormous, but the rewards of showing that you have not only done your share, but have done well are even greater. So you must show your capability and show you have done what it takes to do the job. Some employers ask for resume samples of previous jobs that demonstrate this. Others require volunteer experience in writing resumes. Here are five ways to demonstra te your ability to do the job.First, get a mentor who can help you in learning how to write the kind of resumes that will land you the jobs you want. Second, learn how to prepare a very good cover letter. Make sure it gets written by someone else and make sure it is focused on the job in hand. Last, make sure you understand the hiring process and that you have a strong connection to the organization. Lastly, learn how to deal with those not-so-patient bosses and with the stressful demands of the job itself. If you can't explain why you did your volunteer experience, chances are you can't talk about it. You have to let it show. Showing you were effective at what you did, demonstrated your versatility, and gave a boost to your resume will go a long way. It is also likely that you will be hired without even doing a face-to-face interview. A resume sample is not a substitute for hard work and eagerness to work.Another way to show you can do volunteer work is to follow up with those organ izations you worked for. Volunteer coordinators and staff members do not always take time to thank and acknowledge those who work to keep their work going. Contact the program coordinator at your program or school to see if they are planning on letting you know where you stand in terms of volunteer experience.Consider the impact a resume sample can have. An essay like this could be all you need to get an employer to take a second look at your application. By expressing your enthusiasm, demonstrating your competence, and showing your willingness to give back to the community, you'll get the necessary boost. At the very least, you may get a thank you call from someone that day. And it could be just the opening to getting the job. Finally, make sure you get good help to craft the most effective resume possible. It may be that you can write the content, but if you don't know how to market it, you're not going to get the kind of response you want. Good resume volunteers can make all the d ifference.

LinkedIn Features Job Seekers Need to Know About

LinkedIn Features Job Seekers Need to Know About a new Microsoft Word feature called “Resume Assistant,” was announced. When this feature is enabled, it shows what other people in similar roles say about themselves in their LinkedIn profiles, allowing users of the word processing software to incorporate that content directly into the resume they are creating. While it has always been possible to view profiles of individuals in similar roles for inspiration when constructing your resume, LinkedIn Headline, and profile content, this new feature allows users to directly copy content from other peoples’ LinkedIn profiles â€" including yours! Fortunately, with the introduction of this new feature, LinkedIn has also recently added a new privacy setting to allow you to omit your LinkedIn profile from showing up in Microsoft Word’s Resume Assistant. Disabling the sharing function makes it harder for others to “plagiarize” your LinkedIn content â€" whether you wrote it yourself, or had assistance from a professional resume writer. Here’s how to turn on the LinkedIn privacy setting to disable Resume Assistant. When logged into your desktop LinkedIn account: Click “Me.” and then select Settings Privacy from the drop down menu: 2. Click “Privacy.” 3. Scroll down to the “How others see your LinkedIn activity” section. 4. Click on “Microsoft Word.” The default setting is “Yes” â€" “Allow Microsoft Word to display work experience descriptions from your profile to users of Resume Assistant.” Changing the setting to “No” keeps LinkedIn from sharing your descriptions with Microsoft Word users.    5. Slide from the default “Yes” so it shows “No.” You can also change this setting in the LinkedIn mobile app. In the app, go to the “Settings” gear in the upper right-hand corner and click “Privacy.” Scroll down to “Microsoft Word” and display the setting. Change the slider to “No.” Note: Even though you have disabled the sharing of your content with the Resume Assistant, LinkedIn’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service explicitly warn users that the information that you share can be seen, copied, and used by other members. One of the best things you can do to keep your content from being plagiarized is to make it uniquely about you â€" branding yourself so distinctively that your content couldn’t possibly be used to describe anyone else but you!   Also, check your Privacy Settings often as I’ve seen them reset when new versions or upgrades are made to the system! BONUS!!!   LinkedIn is now starting to share the keywords that are used when people search for you! Go onto your profile, and on your dashboard (located under your header and private to you) you will see:   the number of people who have viewed your profile..the number of recent post views.and the number of recent search appearances.Click on Search Appearances (red arrow in screenshot below):   Now scroll to the very bottom of the screen to see Keywords your searchers used.   Gold! This features allows you to see top keywords searchers used. Customize your profile to include appropriate keywords and raise your visibility. Get found for what you do or want to do!   If you are not being located for your area of expertise, you should re-think your keyword strategy and work to infuse the profile with more related words. ** If any of the above new features are not showing on your profile it may be because LinkedIn made more changes! Changes on the site are inevitable.

For tyrant figures, it's the manner by which they deal with the working environment with dread based strategies. Asking numerous inquiries regarding what's setting these managers off can enable these yellers to realize that you're endeavoring to determine the problem. For the initial two kinds of yellers, shouting is a type of order; for the last class of yeller, it's something they appreciate. This sort of yeller gets their kicks causing individuals to feel like soil, as per Monster. I unquestionably need helpful analysis, yet it's difficult for me to take it in when you're yelling. In the since a long time ago run, individuals who are compelled to manage shouting at their work environments are exhorted by specialists to escape and locate a more settled condition.

Getting Healthy Enough to Survive Jurassic World - MCG

Getting Healthy Enough to Survive Jurassic World - MCG Do you have what it takes to survive Jurassic World? On a normal day at Jurassic World, remaining on the human side of the raptor cage, not taking a dip in the mosasaurus tank, and keeping your hands and feet within the giant hamster ball vehicle (the gyrosphere) is enough to survive. Unfortunately, Jurassic theme parks are ticking time bombs with very sharp teeth and claws. In the words of Jurassic Park survivor Ian Malcolm, a mathematician who specialized in chaos theory: “Life will not be contained. Life breaks free.” Despite the potential danger, the ability to see prehistoric dinosaurs is too good to refuse. For all you know, the dinosaurs might wait until the weekend after your scheduled visit to escape from their cages to feast on human flesh. And with that in mind, how can you not go? As you prepare for your dinosaur filled visit, your preparations should include a regular workout regime. Yes, the Indominus Rex can run up to 30 mph, but you only need to be fast enough to outrun the woefully out of shape guy standing next to you. Here are a few steps to help you survive your visit. Step 1: Travel with a Pack of Couch Huggers The good news is that you might not need to train yourself too much to outrun the guy or gal next to you. In 2013, 22.9% of adults in the United States lived sedentary lifestyles. This means that nearly a quarter of your fellow park attendees spend very little time walking or running on a daily and weekly basis. You want to escape the park alive? Keeps an eye out for those sedentary individuals. These people: Pant as they walk up and down the stairs. Pause constantly to catch their breath. Possess as much muscle mass as a toddler. Tend to be at least a little overweight. Once you identify these individuals, stick close to them. Animals travel in packs for a reason. Part of that is to lower the chances that they will be the one targeted by predators. If you’re unsure you will locate these individuals, you might want to invite a few of your work buddies. You will probably need to purchase their ticket, but the fact they will be heroically sacrificing themselves for you, will be worth racking up some credit card debt. Step 2: Run For Your Life Start working out now. Remember only a quarter of the population does not work out at all. That means the more you work out, the higher the likelihood, you will be able to outrun the other 75% of the population when the T-Rex or I-Rex hunt you down. Here’s some tips to begin your workout journey: Locate an app like Zombies, Run! Or The Walk to turn your workout into a game. Both transform walking into a fun adventure. Find a workout buddy to keep you going. Bike, ice skate, dance. Choose an activity you enjoy. This will take less willpower. Just keep reminding yourself, you might need to flee from a dinosaur soon. The threat of death can be great motivation. Step 3: Keep Away Disease Diseases can make it harder to keep one step ahead of killer dino’s. Why? Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and diabetes both require individuals take regular doses of antibiotics. The I-Rex isn’t going to wait patiently as you give yourself an insulin shot. Inconsiderate, I know… but so is eating people. And if he didn’t enjoy doing that, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. Here’s what you need to do. Check with a doctor to see if you’re in danger of CVD and diabetes. The fact that you might be young and in your prime, will not mean you will remain physically healthy. Here’s an uncomfortable truth: In 2010, 86 million Americans were diagnosed with pre-diabetes. And 12% of American men and 10.1% of American women from the range of 20 to 39 were diagnosed with CVD. Dino attacks and diseases, in both cases being forewarned can allow you to arm yourself to beat the odds. You can reduce the chance of developing either disease by working out for 30 minutes five times a week, eat a healthy diet, keep a healthy weight, and get at least seven hours of sleep each night. Step 4: Lose Some Weight A healthy weight can not only ward off disease, it could potentially make you a less appetizing meal. After all, what self-respecting dinosaur would go after a human blade of grass instead of a plump, juicy drumstick? Now’s the time to either begin losing weight or making strides to maintain your current weight. Successfully losing weight is a combination of a regular work out regime and adopting the right diet. One vegetable you can add to your diet to maximize your weight loss potential is the chili pepper. Chili peppers, according to UC medical laboratory professor JE Mortenson, possesses a chemical called capsaicin. The Power of Capsaicin explains that capsaicin can be utilized to naturally promote weight loss. How does this work? Well, the capsaicin once ingested “up regulates metabolism,” “help[s] the body to metabolize fat molecules” and “decreases the appetite.” Stick with the healthy diet, the regular fitness regime, and add chili paste or peppers to every other meal â€" you’ll be on a slow and steady journey to a trimmer, slimmer, and most importantly less appetizing, to dinosaurs anyway, figure. Jurassic World is the event of the summer. No other theme park gives you the ability to see a real T-Rex, Raptor, or an mosasaurus. A smart park visitor boards a plane fully expecting that they might need to run and fight for their life when the dinosaur’s inevitably escape. Before setting foot in the park, survival depends on being as physically fit as possible. Featured image a mash-up of  The Difference a Degree Makes: Infographic and  Jurassic Park Wikia.

6 Ways to Reject a Candidate as Painlessly as Possible

6 Ways to Reject a Candidate as Painlessly as Possible Rejection is part and parcel of the recruitment process. Unfortunately, you will always have to turn down more candidates than you hire. However, how you dismiss candidates speaks volumes about your company and its culture. Bad rejection practices can seriously damage your companys reputation and that all-important employer brand! Research conducted by Jobbio found that 82% of people would not work at a company with a bad reputation. With so much riding on the process, you really cant afford to mess it up. Heres how to reject a candidate without hurting anyones feelings. 1. Let the candidate know ASAP Many hiring managers wait until the end of the hiring process before they notify unsuccessful candidates. Some even wait until their new hire has started work. This is just disrespectful. Your candidate may be delaying applying for other roles or even turning down offers in the hope of securing the gig at your company. Once you have made your decision, let the applicant know. Put them out of their misery as quickly as possible. Respect other people’s time and they are more likely to respect yours. 2. Pick up the phone If youve spoken to the candidate on the phone previously, you really should give them a call to let them know that they are not the right person for the job. Emails can often seem cold and impersonal. Take a few extra moments out of your day and pick up the phone. Always thank the candidate for the time and effort that they put into their application. Let them know that you have already offered or are planning to offer the job to someone else but you appreciate their interest.  Its also a good idea to send them an email reiterating this information so they have a record of the conversation. 3. Keep it brief Explain in one succinct sentence or paragraph why youre declining the applicant, for example, Although we were very impressed with your skills, we have decided to go with an applicant who had more hands-on marketing experience. This will give them an idea of the areas that they need to work on without entering into a long and lengthy discussion. It is a good idea to always include a few positive points as well. You shouldn’t sugarcoat things but it is important to not come across as overly negative. Remember you want to be firm but fair. 4. Personalize, personalize, personalize Nothing says ‘’we don’t care about you’’ more than a stale rejection email or cold phone call. Always include the person’s name and mention things that you spoke about during your interview. Remember you are dashing this person’s hopes so the least you can do is treat them with respect and consideration. Treat others the way you want to be treated. 5. Be honest Now is not the time to start making false promises. If you are genuinely interested in staying in touch with the candidate then finish off your phone call or email with an offer to stay in contact about upcoming roles. Connect with them on LinkedIn and save their details for future reference. However, if you cant imagine the candidate working in your company at any stage then do not give them false hope. Wish them all the best in the future and leave it at that. Candidates will always appreciate your candor. 6. Ask for feedback Hiring is a two-way street. Asking for feedback is the best possible way to find out what applicants think of your hiring process. While most companies are happy to dish out feedback to applicants, most fail to ask for it in return meaning theyre missing out on valuable learnings. Asking your candidates for feedback shows that you care about their opinion and respect what they have to say. Don’t just ask successful candidates. You should attempt to survey all talent. Use this feedback to structure your hiring process. This will help you to ensure a fair procedure is in place. The World Economic Forum recently grilled 350 HR leaders from the worlds biggest organisations. What about? Basically which skills they thought would be in the greatest demand in their business in 2020. Based off those findings, EY got to work to narrow this research down to five key future skills. Loads of cool things were brought up. Artificial intelligence and smart machines were predicted to replace a ton of jobs. However, this means that the future workplace will consist of people with skills that have even more of a human touch. Because, you know, machines cant replace  everything.   Without further ado, here are the five future skills you need for career success in 2020. After all, its important to plan ahead. Complex problem solving Seems pretty obvious, we know. But problem solving is undoubtedly one of the most important skills you can have to impress at work. Why? Because this is something thats not only difficult to find, but is hard to teach. This is the ability to look at complex information or a tricky situation, and make an informed and accurate decision when choosing a response. Whats truly impressive to employers is a candidates ability to prioritise. If you can demonstrate an understanding of what is and isnt important, this shows a high level of critical thinking. Creativity When most people would look right, youre the kinda person who would look left instead. Companies are craving creativity in their workforce. Creativity leads to innovation, after all, and innovation leads to business success. Companies in 2020 are more likely to look for candidates who are both entrepreneurial and inventive. These will be individuals who arent afraid to challenge the status quo, and really make some waves in the business. Creative people will thrive in any kind of industry. Its not just about creative writing or art its about being able to think outside the box. Collaboration Guys, we all have to get along, ya hear? This isnt just about getting on with your colleagues. This is also about being adaptable to new people, being socially and culturally aware, and developing relationships even in tough circumstances. Phew. Our prediction is that companies will look for individuals who arent just great team players, but team leaders. People who champion diversity, and are able to bring the best out of their fellow team mates. A great team is only as strong as its weakest link, after all. Cognitive flexibility Brainy folks, this one is for you. EY have predicted that companies will start looking for candidates who are basically advanced multi-taskers. Adaptability and flexibility will take you very far in your career, if you have this skill. Essentially, demonstrating this will involve constantly testing and improving new skills, agility in multi-tasking, and being able to conceptualise multiple ideas at once. Whats most important? The ability to adapt to change. The working world will constantly throw crazy obstacles at you. Theyre looking for people that can not only dodge the shrapnel, but can take it and turn it into something positive. Emotional intelligence Dont worry folks, were not about to get all fuzzy on you. Real talk: empathy is going to be one of your five keys to success in the future. Being able to listen, have self-control, and navigate tough social situations will solidify you as an A* candidate. Successfully demonstrating this skill will highlight that youre mature, level-headed and resilient. Bonus points if youre able to maintain a positive outlook even through the toughest times. So there you have it. The five future skills thatll lead you to career success, thanks to the good people over at EY. Use this new-found information wisely, gang, and dont forget to share it with your pals. Connect with Debut on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn for more careers insights.

Language Proficiency Resume - Uses Your Awareness of Your Linguistic Ability to Attract the Right Audience

Language Proficiency Resume - Uses Your Awareness of Your Linguistic Ability to Attract the Right AudienceWhat makes a language proficiency resume a little different from any other resume you might be seeing in your job search? The answer is simple. Language proficiency resume is different because it is intended to appeal to the right audience. Most people (particularly those with limited experience) just don't have the proper vocabulary to express their knowledge of the language they are studying. Many of them might not even speak it well enough to get themselves understood in conversation. And while it's true that everyone would like to have the ability to converse in a second language, there are some who simply do not have the desire to learn any more than they need to.If you are one of these individuals, you need to know that you're certainly not alone. The reality is that people all over the world have been left behind by the language exchange economy that has been so popular for the past several decades. When you come across someone who speaks English very well, it's natural to assume that he or she has learned English as a child. That's absolutely the case. These are the perfect examples of language learners who learned to speak another language as part of their schooling. But that's not where it ends.In fact, most English speakers born in a modern industrialized country have no more than two or three years of formal education. And while most of them are able to communicate with native speakers fluently, those with only a few years of schooling still have some serious problems when it comes to acquiring the vocabulary needed to speak their new language. This means that if you want to impress anyone with your language proficiency resume, you need to demonstrate the willingness to learn. So what you need to do in order to make sure that your language proficiency resume is appropriate for the audience it's intended for is to ensure that it's written in a way t hat is very conversational. This does not mean that you need to hire a special software program to write your resume. Instead, you need to find a good English-to-Spanish translator, and make sure that the copy you are going to distribute on your own also includes translations of key phrases. In addition, you need to ensure that your potential employer knows that you are actively trying to learn Spanish. This will help to remove any barriers to your language proficiency resume, because now that you know that you are willing to work hard, the employer is likely to see that as a positive sign.

What College Major Makes The Most Money

What College Major Makes The Most Money About 20.4 million students will attend an American college or university this fall. One major, in particular, will get the fattest paychecks. Petroleum engineering, a field structured around extracting oil and gas from beneath the earth’s surface, comes with a starting salary of $94,600 and a mid-career salary of about $175,000, according to new data from PayScale. That’s a heck of a lot more than any other major, and nearly three times the national average. Overall, students who choose STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) curriculums are poised to out-earn their peers, PayScale found (surprising exactly no one). All of the top 20 ranked bachelor’s programs in the company’s latest college salary report are in STEM-focused fields, and 14 are engineering-specific majors. After petroleum engineering, actuarial mathematics, actuarial science, nuclear engineering, and chemical engineering round out the top five. If you (or your kid) majored in liberal arts, don’t panic â€" there are some high-paying jobs in humanities and social sciences, too. Government majors, for one, make an average of $107,00 by mid-career. Students who major in real estate ($94,100), hotel administration ($92,700), and environmental health and safety ($91,800) don’t do too shabby either. Certain foreign language majors also stand to make a pretty penny. Students who study Japanese make an average mid-career salary of $106,100, while German majors make $87,700, and Russian majors make $85,700. Here’s another comforting tidbit for non-STEM majors: while STEM degrees tend to be more valuable than liberal arts degrees at the start of an employee’s career (STEM majors make about 24% more than liberal arts majors early on), that seems to change later in life. By mid-career, 69% of occupations pay STEM and liberal arts majors the same, according to PayScale. Turns out, experience counts for something. The annual ranking is based off salary data from alumni of 2,441 institutions, and includes data for both two and four year degrees. Here’s the full list.

How to Find Social Work Jobs Online - Work It Daily

How to Find Social Work Jobs Online - Work It Daily If you’re trying to find social work jobs online, you will need to have the right combination of skills, education, and real world experience to successfully serve your community. But it is just as important to know how to format your resume to be read by a computer, to make sure it includes the right keywords and to know what niche job search sites to use. After all, it doesn’t matter that you’re the employer’s ideal job candidate unless they actually read your resume and decide to call you in for an interview. Build a Search-Friendly Resume Today, you need two versions of your resume with the same information formatted in different ways. You should have a beautifully formatted copy of your resume printed out to hand to potential employers during interviews. But you also need an electronic copy of your resume formatted to be read by computers, not people. Lose the bullet points and careful spacing and reformat the whole document as plain text (.txt). Pepper the document with keywords used in the employer’s job description, and computers will recognize that you have the right experience for the position - and that you know it. Social Work Keywords The best place to find the keywords you need to include in your resume in order to get the attention of the screening computer is in the job descriptions of your target employers. However, there are some buzzwords associated with social work that show up repeatedly in social work job descriptions and are thus fairly likely to get the results you want. Some of those words are: advocacy, outreach, fundraising, program development, treatment, diagnosis, counselor, and case manager. While using some general keywords makes it easier to customize your resume for each job, you should still pull keywords from the description for every position you apply for. Social Work Job Sites In addition to standard job search websites like Monster.com and Idealist.org, there are a number of useful job search websites specifically dedicated to social work. The National Association of Social Workers’ Social Work Career Center is a great place to start. The New Social Worker Magazine’s Social Work Job Bank is a great resource offered by a social worker in the spirit of service to other social workers. Socialwork.com, socialservice.com and socialworkjobsearch.com are other websites that serve the same specific niche. Once you have properly formatted your resume for the Internet, liberally peppered it with social work and job-specific keywords, and submitted it to all the right career search sites, keep at it! Re-formatting your resume can’t guarantee you’ll land your dream job, but it does significantly increase the odds that potential employers will consider you seriously as a candidate. And making potential employers aware of your interest and qualifications is always the first stop to a long and rewarding career. This article was written by Social Media Outreach Coordinator Joshua John on behalf of CAREEREALISM-Approved Partner, 2tor â€" an education technology company that partners with institutions of higher education such as the University of Southern California which provides a Masters In Social Work degree online.
